Registration of an Icelandic (IS) company now checks the kennitala against the Icelandic company registry (fyrirtækjaskrá), kept by Skatturinn, the Icelandic tax authority. The check runs after the structural validation of the kennitala.
What is checked
- The company must exist in the registry.
- The company must be active. A company that is deregistered, bankrupt or insolvent is not active.
API endpoints affected
- REST API: POST /v1/companies
- SOAP API: register_with_password
Customer impact
A registration for a company that the registry does not know, or reports as not active, is rejected with the standard business identifier error. POST /v1/companies answers HTTP 400 with the code create_company and the details Business ID invalid, and the SOAP API answers ERROR: BID CHECK FAILED. The same error is returned when the registry cannot be reached, so if the kennitala is correct and the company is active, try the registration again later.
No change is needed in your integration. Registration of Icelandic companies stays open only to partners approved by Maventa.
